Does Your Favorite Hospital Take Your Health Insurance?
Many of our neighbors are experiencing a difficult time navigating their health insurance due to some of the local hospitals coming out of network with the plans. At SBG our phones have been busy with current clients calling in concerned about the availability of care for them coming into 2024.
If your health insurance drops coverage for a particular hospital, you may need to seek medical care at alternative facilities that are still within your insurance network. Out-of-network care can be more expensive, so it’s important to check with your insurance company about the changes and explore options to ensure you have coverage for needed medical services. Additionally, you can inquire with your insurance provider about the reasons for the change in coverage and discuss potential alternatives.
At SBG we think a little differently than the carriers because we have so many options at our fingertips at all times. We believe the carrier should win your business. There is absolutely no reason why you cannot have a great plan while being able to go to the great providers that you want to go to.
What are my options? Do I Have Any or Am I Stuck?
Many consumers do not realize this, but Medicare has an additional period during the year in which you could potentially make a change. This period is called the General Enrollment Period, formerly called Open Enrollment Period, and it runs from January 1-March 31 of every year. Now there are a few exceptions where a consumer may not be able to make a change but in most instances, we can make a one-time change for our clients to a new plan. That plan they choose at that time they are now on until the end of that calendar year.
If you are too young for Medicare the ACA, also known as the Healthcare Marketplace has the Open Enrollment Period until January 15. Through the year though you may qualify for a SEP or Special Election Period due to your life circumstances. Here at SBG we feel as if we are the SEP experts and we always tell our clients if there is one to be found we will find it both on the ACA side and the Medicare side of the insurance world.
